Does the sideboard have to match the table in the dining room?

Some people would prefer to buy their buffet table and dining table as a matched set - it takes the guess work out of trying to decide if two contrasting styles, colors or finishes actually complement each other or just bring the room into an eclectic disarray. But truly, whether you find a sideboard that matches your dining room table, or you add a mismatched, unique sideboard to add a contrasting character to the room, it is completely up to your discretion.

What is the difference between a sideboard and a buffet table?

People, and stores, use the terms sideboards and buffet tables almost interchangeably. But really, what is the difference between a sideboard and a buffet table?  Variations of sideboards began to take shape, until we have a slight differentiation between sideboards that have short legs, or sit directly on the ground, and buffet tables which may have longer legs that raise the unit up off the ground. The buffet tables may be used more as a method of serving food, a place to put food for people to help themselves, instead of just a storage unit for dishes and silverware.
